About Me
About Ricki Sage
My name is Ricki Sage, and I'm the founder of Peak Fitness Personal Training and Fifty Plus Fitness. I specialise in helping people just like you to lose weight and get into shape. From the age of 2, I suffered from chronic asthma, a condition which meant I never really knew what it was like to run around and be active like most young children, but I had the appetite of a young child, and because I couldn’t run about like normal kids, I put on a bit of weight. As I grew older, my asthma became less of a problem. I found that I could run about a bit, but I was a long way from being fit and I was determined to lose weight.
Discovering Fitness
Around the age of 12, asthma became less of a problem, and I started exercising as a way of increasing the strength of my lungs, and my overall fitness. I used to run up and down the stairs in my mum and dad’s house to gain fitness and sprint up and down the garden. The weight started to fall off.
Then, I broke my ankle and both my tibia and fibula during a football match. Unable to exercise for a while, I started to gain weight. Once fully recovered, I became an avid cyclist when I was around 14, riding 10-15 miles on a road circuit every morning before school to get fit. Inadvertently, I had discovered the effectiveness of 'fasting cardio'. The weight I had gained began to fall away, and my fitness levels soared.

Sports and Injuries
I started motocross racing as a hobby when I was 17 years old. At this point in my life, I did many circuit classes and used bodyweight exercises to maintain my fitness. I even had a six-pack! Unfortunately, an accident later resulted in both my arms being broken and fitted with steel plates.
For almost two years, my injuries prevented me from returning to my sport, but I still managed to train in some way. I reluctantly retired from the sport I loved when I was 22 after receiving a few more injuries.
More recently,in September 2019, I was diagnosed with CLL, (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia) a slow-growing blood cancer. In July 2021, I was hospitalised for five days with COVID-19, which was quite nasty. However, because I keep myself fit, I recovered well with no lasting problems – they can’t keep this old boy down! I train at least four times a week.

Becoming a Trainer
I discovered the gym after retiring from motocross. The more I worked out, the more I began to truly enjoy the way my body changed, and I have been training on and off ever since. I took my personal training qualifications when I was 23 years old. This was during a time when few people were interested in pursuing the idea.
In 2017, I completed a 10-mile 20-obstacle Tough Mudder Challenge at age 59. I also started training in Krav Maga, the effective form of self-defence used by the SAS, MI5, and the Israeli Defence Force, and since then, I have been training twice a week with Patrice Bonnafoux from Urban Fit & Fearless. I qualified as a Self-Defence instructor in October 2021.
Having managed two successful gyms, (including my own for more than 21 years) I have extensive experience as a personal trainer and nutrition adviser. At the age of 63, I’m still training 3 to 5 days per week and deadlifting around 180 – 190 kg.

Feeling Young
I have enjoyed every minute of my career. I do not believe in fad dieting, but I strongly believe in eating healthily most of the time and allowing yourself a bit of indulgence, alongside an exercise regime. I enjoy training and staying in shape, the benefits are endless. It allows me to enjoy good food and good wine and be around a long time for my two beautiful daughters, who keep me feeling young, as in my mind I’m still 25!
Feeling good and looking younger than my age is just another benefit. While getting fit, you must also enjoy life to the fullest, because every day should be a pleasure. Enjoying all things in moderation is a great way to stay happy and healthy!
